With so many hair removal and hair reduction options out there, how do you choose the best option for you? Let’s run through the benefits of one of the newer methods on the market – SHR laser.
What’s great about SHR laser?
It’s FAST! Depending on your area of treatment you can be in and out in as little as 15 minutes.
It treats ALL hair colours. Other laser methods don’t. Light skin with dark hair responds best but SHR can successfully treat blonde, red and, in part even white hair.
It’s almost pain free, certainly in comparison to other laser options, although areas with dense hair growth may feel the light impulses a bit more intensely. The most you’ll feel is a bit of warmth.
It’s suitable for all skin types.
It’s more thorough so requires fewer treatments making it a faster, more convenient way to get long lasting results.
It can decrease the chance of ingrown hairs. When there is no hair in the follicle, there is less chance of these occurring.
It’s great for women and men.
How does it work?
Like IPL, the SHR laser system uses a pulsating light method. Rather than blasting your skin with high amounts of energy (like IPL does), SHR uses low energy and high frequency. It gently heats the hair follicle and the sweeping technique of moving the applicator repeatedly over the treatment area gives full coverage.
Things to consider
While it is VERY effective at reducing your hair to almost nothing, laser can’t promise 100% hair removal forever as some will always try to grow back due to hormones or other biological factors. However, you most definitely will see a dramatic reduction in the density and thickness of hair in the treated area, and you should expect long-term hair reduction once you complete your treatment plan.
Your treatment plan will depend on the size of the area you want to treat and the type of hair you have, but on average treatments happen every 4-5 weeks.
It’s more expensive than shaving or waxing but you have to do it less often and the results are a million times better.
You cannot have laser if…
- Your skin has been exposed to the sun within the last two weeks you may not be treatable.
- You have a spray tan as the laser will sizzle any pigment on your skin including tanning products
- You have used wax or depilatory creams in the two weeks prior to treatment.
- You’ve had sun-tanning vitamin A injections within the last six months.
- You have been bleaching the hair; it will need to regrow in its natural colour before laser.
